SPOILER WARNING!
Come back after either checking out the "About Avatar the Last Airbender" link or finishing the show on NETFLIX :D
PLOT
The plot of Avatar the Last Airbender (ATLA) was honestly one of my favorite plots ever. The originaliy behind elemental kingdoms and war was so fascinating to see it all play out. The creativity and script was amazing. The characters had such distinct personalities that played a role in solving the problems that occured. All the events were connected throughout the whole show which made the binge experience so amazing. Such a wild concept in an older animated series exceeded my expectations.
CHARACTERS
CONS
With all the Fire Nation's impeccable feats in modern weaponry, it's no great wonder how their totalitarian mindset led to complete dominance throughout the Hundred Year War, however, there is still some mystery over the absence of firearms throughout the series. With all their advancements, wouldn't someone have developed a gun to ease the nation's path to victory?
Aang should've had to kill the Firelord. For one, it would've made for a way better arc. Aang struggled for a long time with the reality that he was going to have to kill Ozai. All of the past Avatars told him that he needed to do whatever's necessary to protect people.
Throughout the series the budding romance between Aang and Katara is evident through tender moments shared between the series' more epic storyline, but at one time, the show's show-runners considered having Katara end up with the series' leading antagonist Zuko. Aang and Katara had no chemistry... Zuko and Katara should have ended together as a sense of irony.
Raised by the Southern Water Tribe, Katara and Sokka were never exposed to the wartime communities of the other nations prior to encountering Aang. After losing their mother to a Fire Nation attack, their father went to fight in the war, leaving them with their grandmother. Located in a frozen tundra, they lived in igloos, knowing only about the outside world through stories. Yet they just left with some bald child and traveled the world.
PROS
The character development Zuko went through was the cleanest change of mind I had ever seen. His transition was amazing and his role in the show was one of the most crucial.
Sokka being the only one without bending abilities was great as he was one of the main 5. After Zuko joined the squad, the set was satisfyingly completed as they had a bender from each nation as well as a non-bender.
The filler episodes were just as entertaining as the story episodes which is extremely hard to pull off
Azula is such a psychotic person and being such a powerful villian was the end of her. The literal chills she gave me from her episodes was crazy... the fight between Zuko and Azula was great for both characters however, Azula's unstable mentality was enough to push her off the edge.
Uncle Iroh's entire existence
The way the show portrays real life situations for example immigration and racism in such a natural way was an amazing touch
